Conacyt workers protest in the Yucatan peninsula

Mérida.- Workers adhering to the Independent Union of Research Workers of Chairs of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) they manifested in the Monument to the Homeland of Paseo de Montejor to demand the signing of a collective bargaining agreement with better benefits for all of them.

The dissatisfied workers carried banners with the slogans: “Without science there is no future”, “#CienciaBajoProtesta”, “We are people doing science”, “Rights are not privileges”, and they also shouted “Fight, fight, fight, do not stop fighting , for a decent science, with a future job ”.

This protest comes after Conacyt’s refusal to sign the collective bargaining agreement proposed by the union and the refusal of the Federal Conciliation and Arbitration Board to recognize their right to strike; The employees denounced that since 2014 they have not received salary increases and despite this, this is not the objective of their proposal, but the stability and certainty of the chairs, recognizing their status as base workers and not as they are currently considered as personnel of confidence.

The protesters are from Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, that is, about 150 people from the Peninsula who are in this situation.

The protest also took place in Jalisco, Mexico City, Chihuahua, Aguascalientes and in the case of Veracruz outside the Institute of Ecology (Inecol) in Xalapa. In the latter, they indicated that more than 600 unjustified dismissals have been registered within the Conacyt Chair program.

They explained that they are asked what other professors are not asked to keep their jobs, such as maintaining the appointment of the national system of researchers, among other things, such as becoming a contract with the receiving institution. However, at the moment there are no places available.
