Artists reject Senate-approved public debt adjustment plan

A panel of songwriters, singer-songwriters, musicians and visual artists approved an amended version of the Senate Debt Adjustment Program (PAD) on Wednesday in rejection of the Bill 1003 plan.

“As artists, and as Puerto Ricans, non-signatories raise our voices in rejecting Bill 1003, which seeks to impose itself and all that represents the Financial Control Board. Pedro Pierrelocci said in an open letter to senators and delegates Puerto Rico.

The letter has been signed by more than thirty artists. They are: Raman “Manzo” Saldana, Sabella Rodriguez, Jose Antonio Rivera “Tony Mappie”, Zorida Santiago, Roy Morton Cruz, Rafael David Martinez, Rahul Gonzalez Toba, Casco Lopez, Mari Julia Rita, Ricardo Bones, Desfillo Torres, Sandra Santana, Vector Alice, Angel Vasquez, Armando Pacheco Matos, Hector Escalant, Jose “Bebe” Sanchez and Pedro Munchez. Similarly, Inia Belle Cologne, Felice Manglova, Italia Perez Carey, Noelia Crespo, Rafael Trales, Critiza Fernandez, Pedro Adorno and Tere Marichel Lugo joined.

The Senate yesterday voted 19 in favor and 8 against the move. This includes more than $ 7,000 million in bonds payable over 30 years. However, now the bill returns to the House of Representatives.
