The City of Seville, through the Casco Antiguo District and the Department of Urban Planning and Environment, is carrying out the redevelopment work of the Plaza de Montesión, which after this intervention will be transformed into a more habitable and accessible space with a new space arrangement, paving renovation and more trees. In addition, this action also includes the renovation of the sewage networks by the urban water company Emasesa, as well as the intervention of Endesa to replace the electricity networks.
The delegate of the Old Town District, Juan Carlos Cabrera, visited the area today to check the development of this project, which involved neighbors, merchants and brothers in the area. During his visit, the delegate stressed that it is “a fundamental intervention that would transform an area that requires reorganization and redevelopment that the neighbors were demanding, with the aim of transferring the various compatible uses and services in the field and giving priority to.” pedestrians, as well as to improve access conditions.”
This action, which began last June and is due to be completed before next Christmas, includes the renovation of the entire sidewalk, since the granite paving that has been there until now had noticeable irregularities on its surface, making it extremely inconvenient for pedestrian traffic. .
The new paving will maintain its current location on a single platform over the entire surface of the square, where a lane of only three meters wide will be enabled to cross the road traffic, which will join Almirante Espinosa and Feria Street. With the exception above, use of the plaza will be pedestrian-exclusive, eliminating areas currently used for parking and trash containers.
The new pier will be built in Quintana cobblestone, with the surface face sawn and flamed, except in the case of the rolling driveway, which was planned using Gerena cobblestone recovered from demolitions. For accessibility reasons, the separation between both uses will be marked with blackened concrete floors.
As for the general lighting fixtures, it will be reinforced with two new lampposts, consisting of a cast iron pole and a Fernandinino lantern.
On the other hand, the existing trees will be increased with a new sample of the orange tree) and it is also planned to place six planters to increase the plant mass of the working area.
Regarding urban furniture, in order to prevent improper parking, it was planned to install a series of 90 cm high pillars, finished in black and three reflective horizontal strips at the top, to comply with the provisions of the access regulations on these elements. In addition, the area will be equipped with new bicycle racks for parking these vehicles.
It is worth noting that as a result of carrying out this procedure, Emasesa renovated the sewage network and integrated the water supply network for irrigation and rinsing, which was connected to the existing network for this use on Castellar Street. For its part, the supply company renewed the electricity network.
The business budget is 125,000 from the Old Town area clause assigned to the special procedures of the areas provided for in the current Urban Planning and Environmental Management Contract (€75,000) and also from the Emasesa Conservation Contract (€50,000).
