Osvaldo Cabrera gives the Big Top plenty to talk about. The young Venezuelan prospect has already showcased his defensive skills in the outfield and three infield positions, but he continues to surprise and try to earn a spot on the postseason roster.
In The Fall of the New York Yankees Against the Milwaukee Brewers, Cabrera covered first base, replacing Marvin Gonzalez, who left the game with an illness (as yet unspecified). A chance to see Cabrera at first base I already peeked out Manager Aaron Boone said in a statement because of Anthony Rizzo’s injury.
Cabrera has never played first base in the major leagues or the minor leagues, so yesterday was the Guerreras native’s first performance at that position as a professional baseball player.

In addition to adding a new status to his resume, Osvaldo Cabrera also had an impressive night offensively, reaching base in each of his five plate appearances. Cabrera hit two singles (one of them an infield hit), walked three times, and was very disciplined in the batter’s box.
Cabrera took over his offense, and a few days ago he hit his first home run in the majors.
