Hundreds of Walmart workers will be laid off within the next 90 days They are required to find work at other locations in the supermarket chain.
200 of these workers are in Pedricktown, NJ, and hundreds more in Fort Worth, Texas; Chino, California; Davenport, Florida; and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The total number of employees who will be laid off is not specified.
The dismissal of workers is due to the fact that evening and weekend shifts will be canceled in storesThis is because Wal-Mart cannot hire many workers.
Wal-Mart has faced several financial problems in recent years, due to thefts occurring in its stores, as well as increased competition from online stores, such as Amazon.
“We have recently adjusted staffing levels to better prepare for future customer needs,” said a company spokesperson.
The spokesperson said they will work with laid-off employees to help them get other jobs at other stores..
He also said that the fired workers will continue to receive their salaries for 90 days.
Workers will be eligible for positions in nearly 5,000 stores located across the United States, which the company uses as a base for shipping orders from its locations to customers’ homes.
Wal-Mart is currently the largest private employer in the country, with a workforce of approximately 1.7 million people..
The news of the layoffs comes just months after Wal-Mart laid off 1,500 workers in its Atlanta branch.
