According to the National Weather Service (SNM), San Juan’s record for the hottest day was broken Tuesday afternoon.

The palpable heat that has been felt in the island – mainly in the northern part of the country – over the past few days has exceeded the level recorded a day earlier on June 6 of any year. According to the SNM, the hottest temperature previously recorded was 93 degrees Fahrenheit in 2012.
By noon today, that temperature had already been reached at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, and just before 1:00 p.m., the thermometer already marked 94 degrees F.
The temperature reached 95 degrees just after 2:00 p.m.
However, weather records show that June hit an impressive 97 degrees F on four occasions. One on June 5, 1988 and thrice on June 22, 23 and 25, 1983.
Yesterday Monday, on the other hand, recorded the highest minimum temperature for June 5.

The high temperature we experience these days is due to the wind direction.
“A low pressure well in the north and associated front system, and high pressure developing in the east will maintain the southerly air flow,” SNM said.
The same weather is expected to continue this week.
