The Cuban volleyball team had to rest on the court while waiting to travel to San Salvador for the Central American Games, a decision called into question due to the team’s lack of rest.
On social networks, some Cubans reacted to a video of the team crossing the Atlantic Ocean sleeping on the ground, two days before they faced their opponents from France in the League of Nations.
Journalist Leonardo Ruiz showed that bringing the team to the Central Americans was a very bad idea.
“The Cuban volleyball team participating in the VNL took a “rest” after a long trip from France to participate in the Central American Games in San Salvador. For a fortune that nobody cares about. Give the Cuban federation another one,” the reporter joked with a video of the sport’s current first team resting conditions in the Greater Antilles. .

Two days earlier, the Cuban team was competing in France, the same team playing the third stage of the Volleyball Nations League. Some journalists and sports enthusiasts suggested that the youth team attend the smaller Central American event, although the Cuban federation decided that the team based in Europe should make the long trip to the United States.
The 2023 Volleyball Nations League had six spots in its preliminary round and one designated for the finals. The competition started in Ottawa (Canada), Nagoya (Japan), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Orleans (France), Anaheim (USA) and Pasay (Philippines). The champion will be known in Gdańsk (Poland). The tournament, which began on Tuesday, June 6, will conclude its group stage on Sunday, July 9, and the crown will be announced.
Champion on Sunday, July 23.
As of Sunday, June 25, Cuba is in 12th place with 2 wins and 6 losses, accumulating 5 points overall. The Antillean team has some talented young guys, but many mistakes and their technical direction is questionable.
In their last match against Bulgaria in Orleans, France, the West Indies conceded 35 points to errors and blocking did not work for them. Among the decisions of many athletes to resign are the situations in which they train and compete, actions like this prove that and are further evidence of how the sport in Cuba is nowhere near recovery.
