Ultimately McCormick’s key hit came against the Astros. Rangers

ARLINGTON — The Houston Astros cruised to a 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

McCormick’s opposite-field hit, Adolis Garcia’s run into the right-field corner, came one inning after fellow Cuban Aroldis Chapman made his Texas debut with two strikeouts and a scoreless inning.

Josh Sporz replaced the powerful Cuban lefty and allowed Cuban Jose Abreu’s third hit infield single before Mauricio Dubon and Corey Jules.

It was the first time he had given up multiple walks in 26 starts this season for the Spurs (4-3), and McCormick drove the next pitch over the fence in the right-field corner near the foul pole.

Nathaniel Lowe followed Corey Seager’s leadoff double with a home run to pull Texas within one, and Jose Altuve followed with his second homer of the series in the ninth.

For the Astros, Venezuelan Jose Altuve scored a home run in a 5-2 victory. Cuba Jose Abreu 5-3, scored one goal. Honduran Mauricio Dubon was 3-2 with a goal and an RBI. Puerto Rican Martin Maldonado is 4-0.

For the Rangers, Cuban Adolis Garcia is 3-0. Dominicans Leodi Taveras 4-2 and Ezequiel Duran 4-0.
