Five Mexicans killed in helicopter crash en route to Everest

(CNN) — Five Mexican nationals and one Nepalese were killed in a helicopter crash in Solugumbu district of Koshi province in Nepal, the Embassy of Mexico in India confirmed on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the embassy, ​​it is known that all those traveling in the helicopter died in this incident. A statement shared on Twitter.

Earlier, a helicopter carrying six people had crashed in Nepal, a spokesperson for the Kathmandu International Airport said. Of the six people on board, five were Mexican passengers and the sixth was a Nepalese pilot, a spokesman told CNN.

The Manang Air helicopter took off from Nepal’s Solukhumbu district for the capital Kathmandu at 10:05 a.m. local time (12:20 a.m. ET), according to a statement issued by the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority.

It lost contact less than 10 minutes later, at 10:13 a.m., the spokesman said, without elaborating on why it crashed or what is believed to be the cause.
