Students from La Plata will launch a functional satellite into space

Under the guidance of a physics teacher, Julio Alvarez, Lola Ligresti, Pia Lofrano, Pilar Origlia, Ramiro Pereira, and Santiago Vahnovan, they are challenged to build from scratch a satellite device, capable of transmitting data to Earth.

The creativity and ingenuity of youth come together in an initiative that could change the path of five young students from the Rafael Hernandez National School in La Plata. These third-year students are on their way to designing and launching a functional satellite into space as part of the CanSat Call, an international challenge run by the Comisión Nacional de Espaciales Conae, with support from renowned space agencies such as NASA and ESA.

If they can pass the selection stages, they will have the opportunity to compete in the final stage in 2024.

In this line, CanSat Call presents a series of challenging stages, where each team must submit tests, prototypes, and progress. Of all the entries, only five teams from across the country will be selected to advance to the final stage. In this last stage, the lucky teams will travel to Córdoba, where they will have the privilege of witnessing the launch of their satellite.

Lola, Pia, Pilar, Ramiro and Santiago share a passion for science and exploration, and this opportunity has allowed them to channel their creativity in an exceptional way. According to themselves, the project and the idea of participating in the call came from their own enthusiasm. His efforts are supported by his school and the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of La Plata.
