Apple’s first VR glasses will have a textile design and fan

A message from Bloomberg News Apple has announced that it is ready to launch its first pair of VR glasses in 2022. It runs on batteries like the Oculus Quest 2, and Cupertino claims the device works on “some of the most advanced and powerful chipsets”, some of which even outperform the latest M1 processors on the Mac.

The development of glasses is not an easy task for Apple, as the first prototypes are proving to be huge and heavy. That’s why Apple plans to use a textile design to reduce their weight on the outside of the glasses, as well as a fan – a bizarre decision, Apple prefers designs that don’t include fans.

In terms of size, the glasses are similar to the Oculus Quest, and some of the prototypes tested include external cameras that integrate AR (magnified reality) functions. Apple is also testing the ability to use these cameras to monitor hand movements and add features such as a virtual keyboard.

This release is expected to come soon in 2022, but a postponement is possible. The device will be a flagship device, expensive, and Cupertino did not expect to sell more than 200,000 units in the first years of existence.

Apple has been working on AR and VR technologies for many years, and last year a Bloomberg News report had about 1,000 employees working on developing products that use these technologies.
