Brian Tanaka Confirms “Amicable Split” From Mariah Carey

(CNN) — Everything Mariah Carey wanted for Christmas this year (as the song goes), apparently, didn't include Brian Tanaka.

On Tuesday, dancer and creative director Tanaka shared on social media that she and the superstar singer had parted ways after seven years.

“It is with mixed emotions that I share this personal update on my amicable separation from Mariah Carey after seven extraordinary years,” Tanaka wrote. The statement was posted on his verified Instagram account. “Our decision to go our separate ways was mutual, and as we travel these separate journeys, we do so with deep respect and gratitude for the precious time we shared. The memories we created and the artistic collaboration will remain in my heart forever.

Tanaka, 40, is a former backup dancer who was part of Carey's “The Adventures of Mimi Tour” in 2006. They reportedly started dating in 2016. Next year summary section Then they met.

Tanaka had kind words for Carey in his statement.

“Maria's dedication to her family and dedication to her craft have inspired us throughout our shared journey,” he wrote. “I want to express my love and appreciation to Maria and her incredible children, whose warmth and kindness have enriched my life beyond words.”

Tanaka asked for “understanding, privacy and respect” during this “sensitive” time.

“The love and support from fans has been a ray of strength and I am so grateful for the encouragement that keeps me going,” she wrote. “I look forward to continuing my journey, knowing that my passion for inspiration, dance and the creative arts will resonate in the chapters to come.”

Tanaka's relationship with Carrie was part of her 2016 reality show “Maria's World”.
