UNHCR charges against DR “unacceptable” | As MVM describes AlMomento.net

Santo Domingo.- Miguel Vargas Maldonado, the presidential candidate of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), warned of the danger posed by the accusations leveled against the country by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), which he described as “unacceptable”.

The office of Vargas issued a statement this Sunday, in which the statements were made by the politician yesterday, during one of the meetings he held with the leaders of his organization in the province of Santo Domingo.

In that regard, he called on the Dominican government to respond “to these unhealthy pretensions of these international institutions, not just words,” with actions.

“The Dominican Republic has been prevented from allowing the establishment of these centers for security reasons, where we are not present or where we should not be targeting refugees,” he added.

In response to UNHCR's request to request facilities (from the country) to provide aid to Haiti, the former foreign minister said, “We must always be ready to support and help a neighboring country, but there is always no solution to a difficult situation.” Stay in Haiti.” and led by Haitians.

Regarding the Dominican Republic's demand to stop reparations and mistreatment of migrants, Vargas reiterated that “the government must comply with and enforce the Constitution and the general immigration law.” It added, “Its basic objective has always been to protect the integrity of our nation, at any cost.”

“The Dominican people must be careful and united in the face of the pressure and propaganda launched against the country by some local sectors and international organizations that are always trying to turn it into a big refugee center,” Vargas said in the statement.
