President Nayeb Bukele shared a short video showing how work is progressing on the Francisco Morazán Corridor, which connects the metropolitan area of San Salvador with the western part of the country.
“This is a site of one of the columns of the new highway connecting the metropolitan area of the capital with the west of our country. Step by step, brick by brick, block by block,” the President said.
The viaduct in the area known as Los Sorros will be the longest and highest viaduct ever built in the country. The modern road project will be 1.6 kilometers long and will be built in a valley crossing parallel to a section of the Pan-American Highway and will contribute to eliminating impacts and hazards while traveling through the area.
The government's investment is $245.8 million and includes widening a 14.7 kilometer section of the Pan-American Highway between Las Delicias and San Juan Obico..
The origins of the funds are as follows: $165.3 million has already been approved by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and $80.5 million has been received from the Republic of Korea loan at 0.2% interest rate and term. 30 years with a grace period of 10 years.
The Francisco Morazán Viaduct is part of the comprehensive road project that the government is developing in the region, and it connects to the Claudia Lars objective (San Juan Opico – Sacacoyo).
It confirms the commitment to a future engineering work that will improve logistics along the western part of the country and solve the time-wasting problem currently experienced by the nearly 60,000 drivers who pass through the sector every day.
