Carter Center shows OAS election minutes in Venezuela – DW – 10/03/2024

The Carter Center released this Wednesday (10/02/2024) OAS “original minutes” of elections in Venezuela that “prove” opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia's victory over Nicolás Maduro.

“I just received the international mail and wanted to share it with you after the session so you can see that these are the original minutes from Venezuela with a very significant QR code,” said counselor Jenny K. Lincoln said. From the Carter Center to Latin America and the Caribbean.

The code “allowed witnesses from thousands and thousands of polling centers to compile information from the original data produced by the CNE,” the National Elections Council added before the Organization of American States in Washington.

“This is the main point of this election,” Lincoln insisted. The Carter Center was called in to monitor the July 28 elections, in which President Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner of a third six-year term amid allegations of fraud.

Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and Maduro's rival in the election, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, say they have evidence to the contrary: election records. Lincoln agreed with them.

Data showed that Edmundo González won more than 67% of the vote and Nicolás Maduro 31%, but he declared that the “responsibility” of announcing that would fall to the electoral authority.

González Urrutia chose to seek asylum in Spain after being in hiding for a month and subject to an arrest warrant in Venezuela.

A representative of the Carter Center said that not only the opposition parties, but also the “government”, the CNE and the “military” knew the “real results” of the elections because the electronic voting system was “functional”.

“The world knows what happened on July 28; now it has the truth in its hands!”

The United States and a good portion of the international community have condemned election fraud and demanded the release of the minutes, which Caracas has refused.

During a session of the Permanent Council, the organization's governing body, Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS, condemned an election process that was “not fair, free or transparent.”

“As expected, no record or any evidence of the election result was presented. A fraudulent result was announced,” he asserted, “hiding behind torture, behind killings, behind enforced disappearances, behind political persecution.”

Maduro's questionable re-election sparked protests in the Caribbean nation that left 27 people dead, around 200 injured and more than 2,400 detained.

The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), the main opposition party in Venezuela, thanked the Carter Center for providing the OAS Permanent Council with election records it says it collected through witnesses and polling station members. -Savismo, that the July 28 presidential election was “fraudulent”.
