At an estimated cost of $1.5 billion, Argentina and Chile are planning to build an underwater tunnel to improve connectivity between the South American continent.

During the National Policy Conference on Extreme Zones in Chile, Chilean Jorge Fliess presented this proposal. The initiative seeks to replace barge crossings of the Strait of Magellan as the only way to cross the 3.7 kilometers that separate the Chilean mainland from Tierra del Fuego, providing a faster and safer connection for mass transit.
