The Refuge will provide shelter and containment during the cold season.

The Minister of Social Development, Verónica Figueroa led the opening ceremony of El Refugio, a space to provide shelter and containment to people living on the streets during the cold season. “We are very happy to make the inauguration, it really is a sample of wills that have joined not only from the provincial government but also from the Legislative Power and civil society,” he said.

The initiative arises within the framework of the Winter Operation promoted by the Ministry of Social Development, which will be in charge of the provision of the inputs, use and consumer goods necessary for the operation of the device, which includes food, beds, mattresses, pillows, blankets, chairs, tables, among others.

The agency will also deliver warm clothing and personal hygiene kits at the time of admission and will make the team of the General Directorate of Critical Assistance available.

The proposal is made in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, which will be in charge of carrying out a mandatory health check in order to know the general condition and verify chronic, neurological, psychiatric pathologies and if any medication is required.

The Ministry of Security, meanwhile, will be responsible for the transfer of people in a street situation if necessary and protection in place.

“This was an activity that the Salta Police had been developing and after interministerial work we understood that the Police was not the most appropriate place to carry out the operation and that the function is purely Social Development because they have the specialists and personnel ideal to serve these people, accompanied by Public Health and Safety. This is the result of teamwork that seeks to improve the service provided to the community, “said the Minister of Security, Juan Manuel Pulleiro.
