“It is necessary to make it very profitable to produce energy without damaging the balance of the planet”, has warned Pedro Duque, astronaut and Minister of Science, in this meeting entitled ‘Innovation as a lever to fight against climate change’, and In which Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón, mathematician, scientific communicator, professor at the University of La Rioja and presenter of Órbita Laika; David Cuartielles, co-founder of Arduino and researcher associated with IoTaP (University of Malmö) and Raul Rivero, CIO of Acciona.
All of them have agreed in affirming that innovation develops creative solutions that allow us to maintain our quality of life without compromising the future of the planet.
In this meeting, Professor Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón and researcher David Cuartielles have also opted for innovations that will change the way we work and live, such as internet of things, 3D printing or so-called “smart cities”.
New challenges
However, Sáenz de Cabezón has also explained that there are new forms of energy, such as Nuclear Fusion, “which still it is not clear how they will affect us “ and he has been in favor of sharing scientific knowledge worldwide to be able to fight against climate change, because “it affects us all.”
In addition, all these innovation experts have highlighted the importance of the arrival in Spain of the new European funds, because, according to Pedro Duque, this large investment in Renewable energies “will put us ahead in the field of green energies and we will be able to export them and thus create many jobs”.
In this sense, the Minister of Science has advanced that the ‘Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2021-2027’ also aims to improve Spain’s position in terms of innovation and for this it aims, among other objectives, “strengthen public-private collaboration and favor the transfer of knowledge “.
Finally, from Acciona, Raúl Rivero, has ensured that “the private sector has a very relevant role in the national commitment to R & D & i, especially in sectors as strategic as infrastructure and renewable energy, in which Spain can be placed in the world leader “.
