For many years, it was suspected that Mars was once an Earth-like planet, but over time it turned into a frozen desert. In this sense, the Mars Express spacecraft made a surprising discovery in the subsurface layers that will change the way we understand the universe.

The Mars Express spacecraft found significant amounts of ice in the subsurface layers of the Martian surface, which could allow life to grow on the planet. The discovery was made in an area called Meusae Fossae (MFF), where 2.5 km of unknown natural sphere was discovered after 20 years of exploration.
The area determined by the European Space Agency's new MARSIS radar on board Mars Express is 3.7 km and confirmed to be covered with ice, similar to the polar caps. As a result, these ices found on Mars could melt and form a water layer.
In this context, Thomas Waters, author of MFF research at the Smithsonian Institution, noted this surprising discovery: “When water is present, ice, evidence of life or even past life is possible.”
