With the aim of becoming a 100% sustainable space, the group of artisans and producers of the Elqui Valley “Aldea Elquina” is implementing a self-sustainability project funded by the regional government of the Coquimbo region.

The initiative aims to promote greater awareness among citizens about the effects and consequences of climate change, in addition to preventing and reducing environmental pollution, as explained by the group’s president, Juan Sciorra. “We got this project after a lot of fighting, and we wanted to achieve it for a long time. The environment goes hand in hand with security, because in the area where we are located, we have little light, so we need lighting, and if we achieve this with clean and renewable energy, This is better.

The project is called “Self-Sustainability and Resilience of the Kwena Village” with an amount of US$4,243,959 from the Regional Fund for Environmental Initiatives. This seeks to enhance Aldea Elquina's energy self-sustainability and business resilience, through improvements

La Aldea Elquina is located between Domingo Faustino Sarmiento streets and the CH-41 international road, next to the Shell Service Center in Vicuña.
