ANID's 2024 Journal Publications Fund awarded by UCT

In addition, the project will address and support other initiatives to create new institutional journals that will promote different lines of research.

“The University of Cape Town has a long-standing commitment to the production and dissemination of knowledge through the scholarly journals that are cultivated within our institution,” said Dr Gabriel Saldias, Vice-Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies. “The project that has just been awarded aims to enhance the journals that are already established at the University, as well as to encourage the creation of new and better journals for the benefit of the University community and the region. This project is in line with the efforts of the Directorate of Research and the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies to promote open science and indeed free access to information, so we see the creation of new journals as part of our commitment as an institution to our land and its people.”

The initiative was presented by the UCT Research Directorate, led by Dr Inés Rodríguez, who said: “We are very happy with this award, it strengthens us as a directorate and an institution and opens doors for us to strengthen UCT journals and open up other spaces.” I believe these tools will allow us to position ourselves more in the region and achieve greater access to the national scientific community.

This fund was created by ANID in 1988 and financially supports the implementation of projects aimed at improving national open access scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science and/or SCOPUS and/or SciELO databases in Chile to raise the general quality of publication and visibility. Facilitating communication and dissemination of research results.
