When Willie (guest star Brent Jennings) fails to show up for the game as promised, Billy (Taye Diggs) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) become concerned, and Billy learns something unexpected about Willie. Laura (Monet Mazur) is faced with a new challenge at work, involving Olivia (Samantha Logan), which forces her to make a difficult decision.
Meanwhile, as Coop’s (Bre-Z) 18th birthday approaches and Layla (Greta Onieogou) and Preach (guest star Kareem Grimes) clash over how to commemorate Coop, Spencer takes a trip down memory lane. Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), a gifted high school football star, has traveled a long way in a short period, from his days as a breakout player at South Crenshaw High to becoming a state champion with Beverly Hills High. His family life, personal relationships, and athletic destiny all shifted and evolved in ways he could never have predicted.
After a challenging year following that victory, Spencer decided to return to South Crenshaw High for his senior year, with new head coach Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) by his side. To save the institution, they have devised a strategy to bring home a football championship.
