(CNN) – Police say four people, including a minor, were killed in a mass shooting Wednesday night at an office complex in Orange, California.
“Tonight, at 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 202 W. Lincoln area,” Lt. Jennifer Amet said. When agents arrived, he said, there was a shooting at the scene.
Amat said the shooting took place with the concerned authorities and the suspect was taken to the hospital. The department did not provide any other information about the suspect or the four victims.
“I can tell you that we have not had an incident like this in Orange City since 1997,” Amat said. “This is a tragedy for the victims, their families, our community and our police force.”
News of the shooting prompted immediate punishment.
Scary and heartbreaking. Our hearts go out tonight to the families affected by this terrible tragedy, ”California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a tweet.
California Representative Katie Porter said she and her team are monitoring the situation.
“I’m so sorry that there was a mass shooting in Orange County, and I will continue to think about the victims and their loved ones as we learn more,” Porter said in a tweet.
The Los Angeles division of the FBI confirmed to CNN that it responded to the shooting on a regular basis, but that the Orange Police Department was the leading investigative agency.
CNN defines a mass shooting as a shooting incident that results in four or more casualties (killed or wounded) other than the shooter.
