Beetle Workshop & Gallery: Cultural and Artistic Space

Supported by National Fund for Cultural Development and the Arts (FONDART) In regional calls for 2024, Visual artist and workshop instructor Pamela Siwan Montiel taught a paper cutting workshop at Escarabajo Cultural Space, with 10 students creating different types of works. This course seeks to introduce the community to this type of artistic techniques, through three-month classes, ending with an exhibition.

The works produced in this exhibition were created by the workshop participants: Karen Celis, Tihari Ortiz, Barbara Hernandez, Camila Torres, Elena Casas, Martina Pizarro, Teresa Alarcon, Isabel Peña, Karen Ulloa. Paper cutting technique consists of creating compositions by cutting paper.

Using paper as a material, compositional and discursive resource, this technique suggests diverse creative possibilities. It involves cutting, perforation, overlaying, playing with shape and counter-shape, shadows and volumetric structures being created, which encourages concentration and the development of artistic abilities.

In this regard, Pamela pointed out: “It was a very beautiful and rewarding experience for me and my students. It was a wonderful group and I loved teaching this technique because of its creative variety and low cost.because you only need paper and a cutter. You can use other materials like watercolors or interfere with photographs, and you can do whatever you want.

Camila Vera Sandoval, Cultural Director of the Escarabajo Workshop and Exhibition, The public is invited to visit the exhibition located at 1013 O'Higgins Street, open until Saturday, July 27 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
