Candidates for ParliamentClara Lucia Sandoval (Liberal Party) and Andrea Moncayo (Neo-Liberal), in an interview with Confidencial Colombia, emphasized that although the macho attitude in politics persists in our country, it is being overcome little by little and day by day. Today, it is much easier for them to participate in spaces that were almost impossible for them before.
Both Sandoval and Moncayo consider that the community currently believes in and trusts women’s leadership, work, and efforts to move the country forward. However, they both believe that being female does not mean that they have gained or guaranteed a place, “it must be gained by effort”.
Little by little we can begin to break down those glass ceilings and say, ‘Here we are taking the first step,’ said Andrea Moncayo.
They also agree when they say that society today is more willing to understand that women are not an object of adornment and that their place in politics is increasingly more likely. However, candidate Clara Lucia says that for this reason it is not necessary to trust and called us not to lower our guard in order to conquer larger spaces.
“In my case, we women want the political participation of women in the Liberal Party to grow. I have felt very well received and very comfortable and that I have the freedom to express my opinion.”
