Jerusalem. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was taken to hospital on Saturday, but his condition is “good” and he is undergoing medical evaluation, his office said.
The office said he was being treated at Sheba Hospital near Tel Aviv, but did not elaborate.
An unnamed official close to Netanyahu told the Walla news site that he died at his home but remains conscious in hospital. Another news site, Haaretz, reported that the prime minister was awake and walking unaided, according to hospital officials. These reports could not be immediately confirmed.
Netanyahu, 73, is the longest-serving head of government, with a total of 15 years in various positions. His current far-right government is a coalition of religious and ultra-nationalist parties that took office in December.
His general health is said to be good, despite a brief hospitalization in October after he fell ill during Yom Kippur prayers, the devout Jewish fast day.
Israel is experiencing a heat wave with temperatures reaching 35 C (95 F).
