The Peña Amaya district of Burgos does not want to lose its cultural and historical heritage. For this reason, in the municipality of Sutresgodo, the Peña Amaya Heritage Space is adapted to preserve the heritage of the entire area with the remains of the medieval Celtic, Roman, Visigothic, Arabic and Christian cultures.
To make this center a reality and promote regional innovation and socio-economic activity in Peña Amaya, the Sutrescudo City Council requested support from the Ministry of Sustainability and Demographic Challenge. In 2022, this Burgos initiative was the beneficiary, its project was developed and the tender was awarded to Patrimony Global SL.
In February 2024, the first steps for this space have already been taken, and work has begun on the adaptation of the chosen building, located on San Juan Street in the town of Sotresgudo. This cultural center will contain a training area and another display area to interpret the area around Peña Amaya. The city council expects the latter to open this spring.
Training to give life to rural areas
Likewise, the Peña Amaya Heritage Space is also taking its first steps in terms of training. To this end, the City Council, in cooperation with the winning company, organized a free training course for specialists in interpreting and disseminating the values of geological, natural and cultural heritage, as well as in managing visitors and spaces, with a theoretical and practical part.
This training course is organized in collaboration with the Las Loras Global Geopark, and the practices are centered around Peña Amaya. It is aimed at anyone with an interest in the subject, as it aims to provide a new professional orientation for attendees.
This course will be held on Saturday mornings in April, May and June for a maximum of 15 students. More information can be obtained at [email protected].
