The Ramon Cabanillas Institute in Cambados is organizing three activities in the coming days. One of them is the traditional Carreira dos Institutos, dedicated to the memory of Alejandro García Fariña; The other two are innovative proposals, a science fair, and a day where people are invited to knit in the street.
Carrera dos Institutos will be tomorrow, Friday. The start will be at 12 noon from Plaza de Fefiñáns, and the finish line will be located at Cabanillas, once the students have crossed a three-kilometre circuit. About 600 students will start from Cabanillas itself – the center responsible for organizing the race this year – Francisco Asori and the Salesian school A Mercé.
The second activity is the first edition of the Salnés Ciencia exhibition, which takes place on Saturday morning in the José Peña hall. This is an exhibition in which dozens of schools and institutes from O Salnés will present their scientific experiments. Centers from Cambados, Ribadomia, Mies, Sanxenxo and Villagarcia are participating, as well as training classrooms at the Mancomunidade do Salnés. O Mosteiro School students will explain their project on how pine tree resin affects ecosystems, for which they came third in the recent Galiciancia.
The fair takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Peña Hall – it was scheduled to be held in Calzada, but was moved due to forecast rain – and admission is free. The audience will be able to learn about works related to robotics, 3D printing, laser cutting, perfume and soap making or light refraction. “Educational centers are increasingly becoming more dynamic spaces in the community,” Culture Advisor Liso Gonzalez said in the presentation.
Finally, next Monday, June 10, the Institute celebrates the World Knitting Day of the year with a day in which all those who want to learn to crochet or who already know how to do it and want to share their hobby with other people for a few hours take part in a meeting point at Paseo da Calzada.
The activity runs from five to eight in the afternoon, and the Equality Department, directed by Mar Pérez, cooperates with the organization. Representatives of five Cambodian associations have already confirmed their participation.
