The National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) was again ranked first in the SCImago 2021 Ranking within Latin American government agencies dedicated to research.
It is a classification that evaluates more than 7000 institutions and universities focused on scientific research around the world. What’s more, In 2021 CONICET was positioned as the best science institution in the country.
The results of the thirteenth edition of this ranking reflect that, in the sphere of government institutions, but at a global level, CONICET ranked 26th out of 1,587 institutions, while it ranked 13th in the world in terms of Regarding the Research and Social Impact indicator in government institutions in the world.
It should be noted that in the 2021 edition a total of 7,533 institutions from around the world were evaluated, and CONICET adopted the 195th position, which places it three positions higher than 2020. Once again, the Chinese Academy of Sciences was ranked number one in the SCImago ranking.
The ranking
SCImago Institutions Ranking is a ranking of higher education institutions and research centers that has been carried out since 2009, entirely focused on research, using the scientific database Scopus as a source.
To compile the list for this edition, SCImago considered the results obtained during the five-year period between 2015 and 2019. The only exception is the case of web indicators, which were calculated with the values of the last year.
The measurement process is carried out based on 17 indicators, which perform an analysis of the standardized impact of scientific production, excellence measured according to the publication in which the institution is the main contributor, the total number of publications made in the period , the scientific leadership acquired at the institutional level, international collaboration and the percentage of documents published in Open Access journals.
As established in its policies, the main objective pursued by this ranking is to contribute to decision-making, the development of public and institutional policies and the establishment of roadmaps to promote research activity and continuous improvement of institutions.
