When the corona virus rises, hospitals hope to avoid a painful choice: who gets care, who goes home

In Illinois, a group of doctors sent an urgent letter to the governor because the rate of new infections was so high. “We almost have to determine who gets the treatment and who doesn’t,” said one of its leaders.
In Ohio, the rapid spread of the virus has pushed the state health care system to the brink. Expressing deep concern, the government promised to implement Mike Divine (R)’s statewide mask order and issued new restrictions on community gatherings. “It simply came to our notice then. We cannot allow it to go wild, ”he said.
In Iowa, the White House Coronavirus task force issued a stern warning of a “state of unrestrained cowpea spread” across the state, in line with the number of new deaths reported in a single day.
The number of new daily corona virus cases in the United States was 104,000 a week ago, up from 145,000 on Wednesday, the highest ever. Almost every metric is going in the wrong direction, prompting states to add new regulations and hospitals.
