Six-time NBA All-Star, Blake Griffin, Agreed to terminate his contract with the Detroit Piston, and sources told ESPN that it would become an unrestricted free agent.
Sources told ESPN that the Brooklyn Nets, the Golden State Warriors, the Miami Heat and the Portland Trail Blazers are all expected to be among the teams Griffin will consider for his next stop.
Sources said the 31-year-old Griffin will make a decision on his next quarter after discussions with interested groups.
Finding a trade for Griffin with $ 36.6 million remaining this season and $ 39 million to buy in 2021-2022 was an insurmountable challenge for the Pistons. In talks with Griffin’s agent Sam Goldfeder of Excel Sports, Detroit finalized a reduction in its free salary because the parties have mutually agreed that a trade or purchase is pending on February 15.
Detroit has gone through a complete overhaul under first-year general manager Troy Weaver, and the opportunity to give minutes to the youngest players in the franchise is a priority.
Injuries dramatically changed Griffin’s game, eliminating high-flying attacks and marking his life as All-Star. He averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists for Detroit this season.
Griffin traded for less than a season on his top five-year, 1 171 million contract with LA Clippers and arrived in Detroit in late January 2018.
