Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel took to social networks this Friday to congratulate Round Table spokesperson Arlene Rodriguez Derivet as his “soul sister” while wishing her a happy birthday.

“Many birthday wishes to our soul sister, my partner of all times, the person we can’t be away from. We love you infinitely in our family, Arlene Rodriguez Derivet,” said Díaz-Canel, who was recently elected for the second and last time on the island.

The official spokesman’s anniversary comes a day after the birthday of Raul Castro-appointed ruler. Rodriguez was one of the most famous faces among the defenders of the communist regime in Havana.

It is characterized by the tooth and nail that has protected the island’s political system for decades, as well as the image of the late dictator Fidel Castro. Last year, he appeared in published pictures of the parties and extravaganzas of the leadership of power in Cuba.

In particular, he was seen in 2018 at a large party held at the Rancho Falco restaurant, called every day for his work to clean up the image of “leaders” in government media. In the video, Díaz-Canel and his wife Lis Cuesta have fun dancing. The party was organized by Juan Guillermo Almeida, the youngest son of the deceased “Commander of the Revolution” Juan Almeida Bosque and director of the dance band.

In 2022, the host of the Round Table criticized foreign press media accredited in Cuba for not publishing photos of the May Day parade in Havana’s Plaza de la Revolución. “Why did almost all the international agencies leave without a wide photograph of the mega-march in front of the Plaza de la Revolución, “José Martí?” he asked.

For Rodríguez, the “message” of May Day on the island, ignored by the international media, is that “more than 5 million Cuban men and women marched with emotion, joy (including congas) and determination openly expressed in reports to the national media.

“It was a day full of emotions, where the work on TV shone, gathered great ideas. Not set phrases. Not occasional slogans: arguments, especially in the mouths of many teenagers. In short, as they joked about the character of Cuba in the 90s, those who live that it is on the edge, none of us They will say they don’t understand”, he reveals.

Cubadebate justified the slurs posted on Twitter by Liz Cuesta, the wife of Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Along with other voices of the governing party, Cuesta used irony in his messages and assured that it was a personal account, so he did not have to respond to certain communication or formality standards to fit the profiles of officials.

The Cuban ruler celebrated his 63rd birthday a day after his “re-election” in which he did not have to face any other candidate. “Congratulations my love! May life give you more health, wisdom, patience and strength to continue to drive this island and serve your people whom you love so much, and together with our family, I can protect you more,” his wife wrote.
