(CNN) — El Salvador is preparing for the possible consequences of the passing Tropical Storm Julia According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Environment, across the country from this Sunday night.
“It’s going to rain, a lot of rain on Monday and Tuesday. More than 100 millimeters of rainfall is expected. That is, in a couple of weeks it will rain normally, and it will accumulate in those two days, so, we have to be prepared,” El Salvador Environment Minister Fernando López warned at a press conference. .
Later, El Salvador’s Civil Defense announced that a red alert had been declared:

According to forecasts, heavy rains could cause flooding in the city, as well as landslides, falling trees and flooding of rivers or streams across the region.
In this situation, the Assembly decreed a national emergency for 15 days, with the aim of facilitating the use of government resources to attend to emergencies caused by Julia’s passage.
The government has activated 61 temporary shelters in various areas to shelter families living in flood-prone areas or needy families.
