When talking about studies of the mother tongue in Cuba, the name of Julio Vitelio Ruiz Hernández certainly comes out, a teacher from Santiago de Cuba who gave his life to pedagogy and linguistics, passions that accompanied him in his professional development.
The mark of this writer was reflected in the three scientific days of the international Symposium «50 years of the Center for Applied Linguistics. Tribute to Vitelio Ruiz Hernández ”, which took place from April 28 to 30 in this city.
Professionals of social communication, education and linguistics from Cuba and the world, debated on the dissimilar Disciplines of Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Medicine, Mass Media and Art, Ethnology and Folklore, among others.
This symposium was prestigious with the magisterial conferences, in a virtual way, of the professors and doctors of science Guillermo Rojo, member of the Governing Board of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), Spain, that of Anton Nijholt, of the University of Twente , Enschede, the Netherlands, and that of Sven Tarp, from the University of Aarhus, Denmark, who speak of the scope of the event and the worldwide recognition of the Center for Applied Linguistics (CLA).
In the same way, several round tables and presentations of papers were held, which allowed the exchange between specialists in the mother tongue, giving current information and sharing experiences.
Continuing to search for solutions and tools for the development of society was the commitment of these academics in order to continue improving the speaking and writing of the language.
This fiftieth anniversary symposium perpetuates the intellectual work of the founding fathers of CLA, prominent personalities of Cuban science and Hero and Heroine of Labor of the Republic of Cuba. This tribute to Vitelio is also a tribute to Eloína Miyares.
