HOUSTON – ‘El Marciano’ made an immediate impact.
The Yankees’ prized Dominican prospect Jason Dominguez picked up the first hit of his major league career on Friday — a two-run homer in the first inning off Astros ace Justin Verlander.
The 20-year-old slugger, one of the most anticipated prospects in recent years, missed a curveball from the future Hall of Famer at first for a called strike.
The right-hander then challenged Dominguez with a 94.3 mph fastball into the heart of the Dominican plate that the Dominican promptly sent over the left-field wall. According to Statcast, the shot left his bat at 100.2 miles per hour and traveled 360 feet.
Dominguez became the sixth Yankee to homer in his first major league at-bat. He is the first person to do so since Aaron Judge, who did so on August 13, 2016. He also holds the distinction of being the youngest player to do this at 20 years and 206 days. History of the American and National Leagues.
