Fashion Nova, the trendy fashion brand, recently donated $25k to Homegirl Cafe. This came in honor of Women’s History Month, when Fashion Nova and rapper Megan Thee Stallion teamed up to launch the Women on Top initiative, a female empowerment program.
The initiative, which ran all through to March 31, focused on supporting and empowering women through grants, scholarships, and donations to women-based and female-focused institutions, organizations, foundations, and women aspiring to do great things.
The different recipients were to walk away with $25,000 or more.
Among the recipients was Homegirl Café, which received $25,000. Homegirl Café is a social enterprise run under the umbrella of Homeboy Industries, one of the most popular gang intervention, re-entry, and rehabilitation programs in the world.
This café offers on-site training for rehabilitated females while nurturing female leaders to mentor others.
The donation was made in support of the role the café plays in supporting and uplifting women who have bravely overcome the chains of incarceration and gang involvement.
“Los Angeles’ @homeboyindustries is the largest gang intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. Their social enterprise Homegirl Café provides on-the-job training and has built a pipeline of nurturing strong female leaders who, in turn, mentor others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Homegirl Café, together with Homeboy Bakery, launched the “Feed HOPE” program as a vehicle to provide free meals to Los Angeles residents living in food-insecure areas. Through Feed HOPE, their team produced and delivered up to 12,000 pre-packaged, healthy meals to seniors and families on a weekly basis.” This was a Facebook post made by Fashion Nova regarding their choice of Homegirl Café as one of their recipients.
