HR Derby singer apologizes for 'drunkenness'

Ingrid Andres, who sang the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby, said she was entering rehab and apologized for her controversial performance.


Country singer Ingrid Andres apologized Tuesday and said she was drunk after widely criticizing the U.S. national anthem at the MLB home run derby.

“Today I am registering at a center to get the help I need,” she posted on social media. “It wasn't me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans I love so much and to this country for that performance.”

Major League Baseball would have no comment, a spokesman said Matt Bourne. Andres' rep said he would have no further comment at this time.

Andres, 32, is the daughter of a former Major League strength and conditioning coach. Brad Andreswho worked Detroit TigersThe Colorado Rockies And this New York Mets.

Ingrid Andres has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist of 2021.

On Monday night, Andres performed an a cappella version of 'The Star-Spangled Banner', an incredibly challenging song to sing. Clips of his infamous performance at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas circulated on social media.

Andres began his songwriting career in Nashville before signing his own label and releasing his debut album in 2020. He has a second album out in 2022 and has been promoting a new single on social media, scheduled for release next week.

This is not the first time that the performance of the national anthem has been criticized. In the pantheon of controversial performances of the national anthem at sporting events, Roseanne Barr's performance at a San Diego Padres game in 1990 and Fergie's performance at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game caused similar backlash.
