The illustrious College of Lawyers of Madrid has opened the doors of the new space dedicated to the ICAM Senior Club, located in the noble area of the College’s headquarters at Serrano Street 9. With the presentation of its new facilities, the Senior Club inaugurates a journey marked by the commitment of the ICAM Board of Directors to the highest legal profession, and was honored at an opening ceremony presided over by Brigadier General Eugenio Ripon and Deputy Responsible for the Social Area, Ana Buitrago.
“Today we are inaugurating a new phase in the Senior Club which is embodied in the creation of a social, work and meeting area, in the best location of the building, designed so that all senior professionals can meet to read or talk, get acquainted and, in the end, use your school as it is, your home. With this Words, The Dean of Madrid announced the new headquarters of the ICAM Senior Club, an initiative that seeks to connect members over the age of 60 with the aim of generating spaces for reflection and discussion, and promoting personal well-being and social activation through cultural and leisure activities.
“This Board is particularly proud of the value contributed by our senior members, a legacy of the entire College and the legal profession in Madrid that must be recognized and rewarded,” Rippon stressed.
To all this, the Vice-President of the ICAM Board of Directors responsible for the social field of ICAM and Vice-President of the ICAM Cortina Foundation added, “We want the Senior Club to be an emblem of the re-evaluation, by the College, of the most experienced.” Buitrago thus explained that “this space that we create today for all “The senior membership is not just a change of headquarters: it seeks to return the college to someone who has dedicated his life to the legal profession and the community.”
At the beginning of this new phase, the ICAM Board wanted to highlight a group of senior legal professionals, which includes approximately 120,000 professionals in Madrid. “This honor today is for each and every one of the professionals who have, over decades, and often almost a lifetime, championed the values of the Toga from the office, public service, academia or corporate law,” said the Dean. Honorary presidency
In this new period, the ICAM Senior Club will have the support of two brilliant veterans of the profession, Manuel Valero Yanez and Marta Bernal Sanz. With more than 45 years of professional service, Manuel Valero, former Vice Dean of ICAM, writer and former President of Asociación Pro Dignidad de la Abogacía (APRODA) and ALTODO, will share the honorary presidency with María Bernal, who for thirty years – for two years served as Head of the Incident Department of IBERIA at Madrid, Malaga and Valencia airports. Bernal currently runs a private law practice combining his specialization in family law and cultural law at the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation and at the Culture Committee of the Council of Europe of which he is an active member.
The honoring, which was held on Monday at the college’s headquarters, will continue as a communication campaign to highlight the leaders of the legal profession and their appreciation in front of the rest of the profession and citizens in general.
