(CNN) — Israel accepted a “bridge proposal” from the United States in which it released a number of Palestinian prisoners for every hostage held by Hamas. X said this Saturday CNN analyst Barak Ravit, citing an unnamed senior Israeli official.
Ravit said Israel accepted the proposal made by CIA Director Bill Burns. Burns was in Doha, Qatar, where Hamas and Israel are negotiating through mediators.
Ravit said the delegation is now awaiting a response from Hamas.
A diplomatic source on the matter confirmed the accuracy of the information to CNN, but there are still outstanding issues, including aid flows and “Israeli military realignment” in Gaza.
CNN briefed Israeli and Hamas officials on the status of the talks.
It is not clear what changes were made to the number of Palestinian prisoners. Hamas's latest plan this month calls for the release of 700 to 1,000 Palestinian prisoners. Israel at that time Explained the demands “Absurd” and “absurd.”
A deal, if finalized, is expected to have several phases. In the first phase, Hamas offered to release the hostages, who were women – including Israeli soldiers – the elderly, sick and wounded. Of the 100 hostages still alive, that number is believed to be approximately 40.
Mossad director David Barnia visited Doha twice this week for talks with a high-level Israeli security delegation.
