“It is a new space in Samburundon. It seems ideal to me to open up these outdoor spaces so that the children have a place to play. It was necessary to have an outdoor space in Samburundon, amidst so many buildings,” said one mother who went to the park with her two children.

On this opening Sunday, Samborundon Municipality scheduled a family day in which art displays and spaces for children to draw and play were scheduled.

Leon Torres, who arrived at the park from La Aurora, said it was necessary to have open space nearby so he would not advance into Guayaquil.

“Now we will be able to come to Samborrondon to a big, beautiful park. We had to travel further to go to Guayaquil; now we have five minutes from home,” he said.

This space was officially handed over in a short ceremony on Sunday in the presence of Samborrondon Mayor, Juan José Yuñez.

Bicentenario Park has received SITES pre-certification issued by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) through the GBCI (Green Building Council Institute), Yuñez noted.

“Obtaining this certification demonstrates responsibility towards sustainability and benefits the city economically, environmentally and socially in the long term,” the mayor said.

With a 30% increase in building permits, Samborrondon has established itself as an important development center and a greater value-added area.

This new entertainment area seeks to benefit not only the canton, but also neighboring cities, such as Duran, La Aurora and Guayaquil, said Carlos Alvarez, General Manager of Samborondón Parks Company. It also seeks to include those who live in the cantonal capital.

The official said: “This park is dotted with green spaces, sports areas, children’s games, food establishments, and everything that families can come to and enjoy.”

Alvarez said the council will try to organize activities every weekend to liven up the space.

He pointed out that it is planned to hold various sports, cultural and animal activities, all within a safe and quiet space.
