Puerto Rican boxer Jose “Sniper” Petrazza missed out on 140 free starts on Saturday morning after failing to reach a unanimous decision against Mexican-American Jose Ramirez at a top-ranked card event in Fresco, California.
All three referees saw the fight 116-112 in favor of Ramirez, who is now embroiled in a rematch with undisputed junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor. The Scotsman snatched Ramirez from the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Association (WBO) belts last May. Taylor is also an International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Association (WBA) champion.
“Jose Petrasa is very experienced, he had a big fight, he pushed a lot, I take my hat off to him. I have to see if I can make progress. I was very nervous coming back after the incident in my last fight. I think I won at least 8 rounds. Ramirez said after the victory.
Petrasa (29-4, 14 KOs), 32, suffered the fourth setback of his career. The former world champion is now 3-2 from 130 and 135 pounds moving to 140 pounds.
A win over Ramirez (27-1, 17 knockouts) would have put him in the title fight with a chance of winning the title in the third division.
