Jammu, October 3: Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) has organized an event entitled ‘Improving the Crossing of Parades’ with the idea of regulating traffic in the old city of Jammu and creating a vibrant space for pedestrians as part of Azadi Ka Celebrations of Amirta Mahotsav. .
Pedestrian walkways are safe, not only to improve air quality and promote physical activity, but also to facilitate business and social activities.
Jammu Smart City is gradually making efforts to improve the quality of life of its citizens. Jamma Smart City has a number of people-centered initiatives and is working to improve its environment for pedestrians and cyclists by improving intersections on busy city roads.
The basic idea behind improving this crossing is to make the road more pedestrian-friendly, allowing pedestrians to take the first right onto the road.
At this improved intersection, vehicle parking will be parallel to the roadside. To ensure that there is no traffic congestion on the road and that pedestrians can walk safely, everyone, including traders, is asked to park their vehicles only in identified locations.
Also, in order to have adequate parking at this location, it has been reported that ID-based parking will be brought in via the Jamma Smart City mobile app. Once it goes live, the model will be replicated at other different crossings in the city of Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, JMC Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta congratulated JSCL on the initiative. He said that it was now our responsibility to keep this space free to walk through organized parking. Through many of these initiatives, the city of Jammu is moving towards a smart city.
Addressing the event, JSCL Executive Director Avni Lavasa said the plan for the project was formulated with three things in mind with the Traffic Police Department. First, create a free and safe space for pedestrians, second, stop traffic and pedestrian movement, and third, engage stakeholders to make it a success.
He called on all stakeholders to cooperate with traffic police to ensure traffic and pedestrian-free transit and to adopt walking habits to stay healthy and fit. The use of vehicles should be encouraged if not necessary, he added.
JSCL has organized a series of events as part of the Azadi Ka Amirta Mahotsav celebrations in the city of Jammu from October 1-3, 2021.
