Irish boxer Katie Taylor’s homecoming party didn’t have the happy ending her compatriots were hoping for, as the fighter suffered her first professional loss on Saturday when she lost to England’s Chantal Cameron by majority decision.
The 10-round title fight saw a scoreline of 95-95, 96-94, 96-94 in favor of Cameron, a result that left the approximately 10,000 spectators who gathered at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, cold.

Greetings @santelcam In a big hit
Hats off to you @Katie Taylor For going up a weight class against the champion. Gaining weight isn’t easy, but that’s what you do when you believe in yourself. Great night for women’s boxing 🙏❤️—Amanda Serrano (@Serranosisters) May 20, 2023
He moved up from lightweight to super lightweight to challenge for Cameron’s super lightweight straps. With this decision, both retained their championships: Taylor as the undisputed lightweight champion and Cameron as the super lightweight champion.

According to local newspapers, the result seemed incontrovertible. Some media reported that Cameron was aggressive during most of the 10 rounds. He made a dent in Ireland with power and precision in his strokes.
He cut corners and pushed Taylor back.
