SAN DIEGO — Jeff McNeil hit a two-run double on the first pitch of the 10th inning, and the New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 7-5 on Friday night to extend their hitting streak to six games. Expensive and less efficient equipment.
McNeil’s groundout off rookie Tom Cosgrove (1-2) got inside the lineup past first baseman Jake Cronenworth and into right field to bring home the automatic runner Marte. Francisco Alvarez hit a fourth straight single off McNeil, the 2022 National League batting champion.
The Mets benefited from a two-run single by Francisco Lindor, who had three hits and three RBIs after recording his first five-hitter on Sunday.
Lindor struck out Yu Darvish in the third inning to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. It was his 19th. Daniel Vogelbach’s third single in the fifth inning tied Darvish’s game. He also hit a RBI single first.
For the Mets, the Puerto Rican Lindor went 5-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Dominican Marte scored a run to make it 5-1. Venezuela’s Francisco Alvarez made it 5-4 with a score and one; Louis Guillorme 2-0.
For the Padres, Dominican’s Juan Soto scored a run in a 4-1 victory; Gary Sanchez singled to make it 4-1. 5-1 Dominican Fernando Tadis Jr.
