Lula confirms that Daniel Ortega is not answering the phone

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva revealed this Monday that his Nicaraguan representative, Daniel Ortega, has not answered the phone since Pope Francis asked him to advocate for the situation of a bishop in Nicaragua.

“I spoke to the pope and he asked me to speak to Ortega about a bishop who was jailed,” Lula told foreign reporters, referring to cleric Rolando Alvarez, who was jailed for opposing the Nicaraguan government.

“The point is, Ortega didn't answer the phone and didn't want to talk to me. So, I never talked to him again,” he added.

“This happened to a man who made a revolution like Ortega defeated (Anastasio) Somoza,” lamented Lula, adding that today he doesn't know whether the revolution was “because he wanted power or because he wanted to improve life.” His people.”

Brazil's president said he was in favor of “alternative power” in every country because it was a “healthy thing” for democracy.
