Néstor Lorenzo began his process as coach of the Colombian national team with success, beating Guatemala 4-1 in the first friendly match with the Argentine coach in charge of the national coffee team.
After directing his first match, Lorenzo spoke to the press and his first reaction was surprise at James Rodriguez’s performance.
“The James thing surprised me too,” was Lorenzo’s first sentence. “We know he’s not the best in continuity, but nobody can deny his conditioning and quality. He has a good attitude, like the whole team, and that makes us happy,” he added.
Lorenzo also spoke about the combination of experienced players with young players: “Big players are important to integrate the youngsters. These guys are nothing if not, they have experience and are in charge of taking this Colombian national team to the top as they take the pressure off the youth. For me, it was obvious, but you never know until it happens. For some guys this is a good introduction; I hope they continue like this”.
Regarding the next opponent, Mexico, the coach assured: “We are going to see it, because we have only two days to recover and it will be against a World Cup team with quality players. Our goal is that we point towards the beginning of this process; So beyond the end, it’s important and we’ll go with everything, we’ll have to wait and see what happens these days and we’ll see this upcoming commitment.
