New doses of the flu vaccine reach family doctors

The Ministry of Health’s annual free flu vaccination campaign continues.

This week, another 930,000 doses of the flu vaccine will reach public health departments and then family physician offices to continue immunizing people at high risk for the disease, according to a news release.

With the doses distributed this week, the Ministry of Health distributed 2,430,000 doses of vaccine, which represents more than 80% of the total purchased for the 2020-2021 season. The last dose of the flu vaccine will be provided in early December.

Who has priority in vaccination?

We recall that, within the free vaccination campaign of the Ministry of Health, people over 65 years of age are immunized, with priority, with chronic diseases, especially respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, institutionalized children and elderly, medical personnel, such as and pregnant women, according to the recommendations of the WHO and the ECDC. As every year, the campaign of the Ministry of Health is carried out through family doctors’ offices and in health units with beds. The distribution of vaccine doses to public health departments is carried out in several stages, as in previous years, ”announces the Ministry of Health.

As of November 15, during the free vaccination campaign of the Ministry of Health, 652,393 people in risk categories were vaccinated.

The situation of respiratory infections

According to the INSP, at the national level, the total number of cases of acute respiratory infections (clinical flu, IACRS and pneumonia) was 43,871, 48.1% lower compared to the same week of the previous season (84,603) and 2, 6% lower compared to the previous week (45,068).

To date, only one laboratory-confirmed case of influenza and no confirmed deaths from the influenza virus have been reported.
