ANAHEIM — Aaron Bummer’s wild pitch scored Mike Moustakas at the plate to give Mike Trout the lead. Victory to the angels The White Sox beat the White Sox 2-1 in Monday’s series opener at Angel Stadium.
It was just the second time this season that Anaheim put an opponent to bed after a wild pitch. That feat makes the Angels the first team since 1920 to get their first two hits of the year on a wild pitch or a walk-off on a passed ball.
The end of the inning began with Trout negotiating a strikeout against Reynaldo Lopez and Shohei Ohtani, before they advanced on a double stolen base and did the same against Bummer.
Dylan Sease and Reed Dedmers were part of the opening scrimmage for most of the game. Ditmers struck out 10 and gave up one run and one hit and two walks in seven innings. For his part, Seaz struck out 10, allowed one run and five hits without issuing a walk over six innings.
The game was tied 1-1 in the top of the ninth thanks to home runs by Ohtani for the Angels and Louis Robert Jr. for the White Sox. Ohtani and Robert Jr. are tied for first and second in the American League in four-base hits, respectively, and Ohtani leads all of MLB.
Robert Jr. knocked it out of the park in the first inning for his fourth home run in three games. Statcast reported Ohtani’s shot went 446 feet to tie the game at 3-1 in the fourth.
