ANAHEIM — Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani turned the tables on July when he hit 30 homers, and he capitalized on it with an absolutely epic blast to right field off T-Backs lefty Tommy Henry on Friday night.
June’s #15 HR for Ohtani came off the bat at 115.1 mph and traveled 493 feet to right field, as measured by Statcast.
The sixth-inning solo home run is the longest in the majors this season and the longest in Ohtani’s six major league seasons. His previous longest was 470 feet in 2021 against Royals lefty Kris Bubic.
That’s tied for the 13th longest home run streak since the statcast was introduced in 2015. A 505-foot blast by Nomar Mazara in 2019 remains the record. It was the longest Angels home run tracked by Statcast, surpassing the 490-footer. On October 5, 2022.
Ohtani made history in the process, becoming just the fourth player in American League history to hit 15 home runs in June. He joins Babe Ruth (Yankees, 1930), Bob Johnson (A, 1934) and Roger Morris (Yankees, 1961). Ohtani already set the club record for home runs in any month with his 14th homer on Thursday. It was also the second time he had hit 30 home runs before the All-Star break, after hitting 33 before the 2021 Summer Classic.
Ohtani, who was selected as an All-Star for the third straight season after receiving the most votes in the AL, had a June in history.
After this home run cut the D-Backs’ lead to 5-1, Ohtani hit .394/.488/.952 with 15 home runs, seven doubles, three triples, 4 stolen bases and 29 runs scored in June. 27 games. He made four starts on the mound, with a 3.26 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings.
