Puerto Rico’s ombudsman Edwin García Feliciano spoke out today against allowing an electric bill to increase because the “gross inefficiency of the company” never justifies an increase in electricity payments.
Garcia Feliciano, who sent his strong opposition to the Director of the Energy Bureau,
Edison Aviles noted that so far, LUMA does not have a single positive metric so that its service was on par with expectations formulated when it was given management of the island’s power distribution system.
“Since I’ve learned to be respectful, I’d rather think that asking for a raise is absurd, rather than saying it’s a serious disrespect for the consumer,” Garcia Feliciano said in exasperation.

Prosecutor Del Ciudadano noted that everything seemed to be the conglomerate’s interest in making immediate profits.
“It’s very clear that people who dedicate themselves to doing the energy business, stumble after another and right off the bat, asking for a cost increase in exactly this way. To me, it’s utter absurdity, if not a slap in the face for those of us who are paying. in exchange for their services,” he commented.
In fact, the Ombudsman’s claim to the Energy Office, which will evaluate the petition, is to firmly reject it and demand clear accounts.
“The only way for LUMA to start operating is to efficiently and responsibly fight for its profits and fulfill the mission for which Puerto Rico’s power distribution was given. Approving the increase would be a reward for inefficiency,” he said.
